What Is the Role of a Medical Assistant?
A Medical Assistant’s role is to act as a liaison between the patients and healthcare professionals. Medical assistants play both clinical and administrative roles. Their position is unique because of this dual responsibility, as most healthcare professionals either work in patient care or in administrative positions. The clinical role of medical assisting tasks include recording vital signs when interacting with patients, compiling patients’ medical histories and administering medications under direction of a supervising physician. In the administrative realm, medical assistants are responsible for a range of activities from scheduling appointments to billing and assisting patients in filling out insurance forms.
