The titles ‘Medical Assistant’ and ‘Physician Assistant’ may seem and sound similar. It is true that they both work in the healthcare domain and have the word ‘assistant’ in their titles. The similarities actually end there. The qualifications, roles and responsibilities are very diverse and different for both the professions. Medical assistants handle a wide variety of entry-level administrative and clinical tasks, they have specific qualifications which could be a certificate, diploma or a degree and they can get certified. Whereas physician assistants are licensed health care providers who diagnose and treat patients under the supervision of a physician.
