JMeter is a tool that is mainly used for Performance Testing and Load testing  a Web Application or FTP application. JMeter can simulate a heavy load on a  Web Server and on the Network where a web application is deployed, to test its strength and performance and provide accurate performance metrics to help fine tune the performance of applications. 

JMeter has a fully-featured Test IDE that allows fast Test Plan recording, building and debugging test plans from any browsers are native applications.  The CLI Feature helps to load tests from any Java-compatible OS (Linux, Windows, Mac OSX).  It provides a complete and ready to present dynamic HTML report.   It has the ability to extract data from the most popular response formats like HTML, JSON, XML or any textual format.   Another advantage of JMeter is its ability to test many different types of application servers, be it on Linux, Windows, Nodejs, Java, ASP.NET or PHP.  Jmeter allows multithreading which allows concurrent sampling by many threads and simultaneous sampling of different functions by separate thread groups. It provides for caching and offline analysis/replaying of test results, along with a highly Extensible core.
